Oma's on Parkwood
Exceptional Family Care Home Living in Leland, NC
What We Offer
Oma’s on Parkwood is a licensed Family Care Home situated in Leland, NC, the first of its kind in Brunswick County. Although new to Brunswick County, there are approximately 500+ facilities throughout the rest of the State. Our Family Care Home has six resident beds and offers full-time assistance from caregivers. This innovative concept has gained traction in the United States. The need for senior care and support continues to place difficult burdens on family members. We all want the best for our loved ones, and it becomes difficult to provide the best for them while also living our own lives, without compromising too much.
At Oma’s, our mission is to create an environment where all of our residents feel loved, needed, and still useful, while also having fun, making friends, and being engaged in life and activities.

The level of care we offer is assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), which refer to the tasks that individuals need to perform each day to maintain personal health and well-being. These include meal preparation & eating, medication administration, housekeeping & laundry, transferring (moving from bed to chair, etc.) and personal hygiene which includes bathing, dressing, and toileting.
We want you to feel at peace knowing that we’ve thought through every aspect of your loved one’s care.
Dedicated Staff

Stimulating Activities
A robust assortment of enrichment activities provides critical stimulation and enriches the lives of our residents. A residential setting ensures our residents can continue to do the things that brought them joy and meaning in their own homes.
Safety & Security

Safety and security are top priorities. An intimate environment combined with intentional design, rigorous protocols, and 24/7 supervision allows us to keep residents safe.
From food to activities to care plans, our resident's experience is truly customized to their needs.
Our Story

Oma’s on Parkwood Family Care Home is inspired by our grandmother, whom we called Oma. After being in larger facilities, which never felt like home to her. She transferred to a Family Care Home and instantly she blossomed and felt at home. The loving care, the family atmosphere, and the food had a profound effect on Oma as well as us.
Oma’s on Parkwood is owned by Lisa and Jeffrey Van Putten. We moved here from Colorado after becoming empty nesters.
Lisa handles all aspects of care within the home. Lisa’s lifelong love of caring for seniors is the driving force behind Oma’s on Parkwood.
Jeffrey is the Facility Director. He headed up the renovations of the property to conform to the safety system requirements of the State while ensuring that Oma’s did not lose the “at home” feeling.
We are staffed 24/7 with compassionate care givers who assist residents with activities of daily living. This includes providing home-cooked meals, medication administration, bathing, laundry, and daily exercise/activities. We take great pride in sourcing the freshest, best foods and cooking them on premise. All of our meals and snacks are designed by a dietician. Meals are tailored to individual residents’ dietary needs as well as their preferences. Rooms are fully furnished with beautiful furniture, high-quality sheets, bedding, and towels. Ample space is available for daytime activities, outdoor recreation, and quiet, peaceful resting.
Renovation is nearly complete and final licensing of the facility is being completed with the State of North Carolina.
We would love to share our care, hospitality, family, and home with your loved ones.

Our Facility

Oma’s on Parkwood is a 2,700 sq ft ranch situated on a serene, half-acre lot, also home to many peaceful and beautiful birds, which provide ample natural beauty and joyful activity. Located in the quiet Parkwood Estates neighborhood, known for mature trees, large lots, and established families. Our location is about 25 minutes from downtown Wilmington and 10 minutes from the center of Leland.
As safety is our utmost concern in the facility, the home features a fully approved NFP 13D fire sprinkler and alarm system, which is continuously monitored. Our protection systems have battery backup and multiple cellular connections.
All doors are monitored, so staff are always aware of the resident's location.
New luxury vinyl flooring was installed throughout the home, providing a safe, nonslip surface. Bathrooms have been remodeled, and grab bars and other safety designs have been added. ADA-compliant ramps have been added at the front entrance as well as off the large deck in the backyard. The large deck and adjacent patio area are great for enjoying fresh air and sunshine, as well as a soon-to-be new vegetable and herb garden, and watching birds.
We have designed Oma’s House with the comfort, peaceful enjoyment, and safety of your loved ones in mind.
Our Philosophy
At Oma’s, our mission is to create an environment where all of our residents feel loved, needed, and still useful, while also having fun, making friends, and being engaged in life and activities.

"Everybody’s got a spot. Everybody’s got things to do. We have a little family. It’s so wonderful that we have the people we enjoy around us.
There’s kindness and goodness here. It’s important that we learn to understand each person. It’s good to stay in practice, and good that we want to work together.
People just want to be loved. We can learn to love each other, to think about how we can help the other person. Maybe it will change them. . . and change you.
Life is good."
